Before a Session

The day of the session, it is recommended to not consume caffeine so you can be fully relaxed on the table and not feel the need to get moving. If you drink high amounts of caffeine or feel irritable without caffeine, I recommend decreasing your caffeine intake the 2-5 days before your appointment, and/or the day of your limiting your intake. If that is not doable, that is okay. The main focus is to not have you ready to relax in your session.

I recommend journaling prior to an appointment to check in with yourself and your needs. Click here for recommended journaling techniques.

For your first session arrive 15 minutes prior to fill out intake, disclosure, and waiver forms, enjoy a refreshment, and get comfy for your appointment. For a regular session, plan on arriving 5-10 minutes prior to when your session begins so that way you have time to fill out optional follow-up forms and enjoy refreshments.

Arrive wearing comfy clothes. It is recommended to bring layers, or wear layers so that way you can adjust to your most comfortable. Bring any blankets, pillows, or other comfort items with you and any questions you have.

During a Session

A Reiki session consists of a client laying on a massage table for the duration of an hour or longer. If laying straight on their back, stomach, or side is unavailable due to past or present injuries, the client is able to sit in a chair. Other adjustments can be explored as well. During the session you will also have different amenities to choose from for you session. These amenities include, sound healing, tea, music to play in the background, leg pillows, a weighted blanket, and more. Read more about amenities offered here. Clients are also encouraged to bring comfort items with them such as comfy clothes, a stuffed animal, favorite crystals, etc.

The session is started by me playing crystal singing bowls and wind chimes, to help the client ground into the present moment. Read more on Sound healing here. I will end the session in the same way with the crystal singing bowls and wind chimes. A standard session is an hour long, however I will check in with you at the beginning of the session to see how tight your schedule is and ask for permission to extend the session if I feel necessary. This will not exceed an hour and 10 minutes unless previously discussed. Two hour sessions are now available.

During the session I will either hover my hands above you or place them on appropriate areas of your body, or both. This will be discussed before we begin in more depth to make sure you are comfortable.  It is thought that Reiki has its own wisdom, and knows where to go in the body to best benefit the receiver. During a session it is normal to feel tingling sensations, hot or cold sensations. It is also more than okay to cry/sob, laugh, sleep, etc. This is a safe place to release what is needed to release.

After a Session

After a session clients have reported seeing more clearly, having more saturated colors in their vision, having their pain levels decrease from an 8 to a 2, pain completely going away, psychedelic like visuals, relief of grief and more. Each session's outcome will be different and cannot be predicted, since the Reiki energy goes to where it is needed, not where it is expected.

After leaving a session, make sure to stay hydrated. A grounding exercise such as breathing & connecting with nature is recommended. Journaling after a session is also recommended. This is a great way to document your progress and process your session.

Pay attention to how long you feel the affects of Reiki, this will help decide when to have your next appointment if you choose to continue with sessions.
